Supporting Local Agriculture

Sunstrand is a proud supporter of local farmers and the larger agricultural communities. In addition to educational and administrative support, our business allows farmers to add cover crops to their annual crop rotations to increase revenues for unused or double crop acres.

The Sunstrand team has significant planting and harvesting knowledge, along with crop and research experience. To ensure consistency and availability, we provide seed to the farmers at no charge. We created this model to ensure efficiency and reduce costs for the farmer.

Our partnerships with local farmers are important for unused acres that have not been generating revenue. Our cover crop options can be planted behind tobacco and other early crops. We provide a mechanism to reclaim acres for CRP land and Strip Mining for use of our crop. Farmers can also reclaim pasture acres from cattle for use with our crops. Lastly, Sunstrand crops help condition soil and control perennial weeds such as Johnson Grass and Pig Weed in an ecologically-friendly/organic way.

Interested in Farming with us?

We look for farmers that have a passion to pioneer a new industry, farmers that can help strengthen the state’s agriculture sector.

Farmers that want to grow between 10 acres to 1,000 acres of Hemp, Flax, and/or Kenaf are welcome to join us. These are the qualities that we usually look for in our farmers:

  • Farmers must be able to qualify for a grower permit through the Kentucky Department of Agriculture
  • We look for competent growers that have the right equipment for planting, harvesting and baling
  • The storage infrastructure for bales and delivery capabilities on an as-needed basis
  • Farmers that normally grow upwards of 500 to 5,000 acres of corn and soybeans, as well as hay production, are perfect fits
  • 50 to 200 miles radius of our plant is our “sweet spot” for producer partners

If you feel you might be a good fit for us, contact us. We’d love to have you.
